Distinguished Manila-based Scholar on the Changing Memories of the Philippine Rescue of European Jews During the Holocaust

The CU and broader public are invited to a talk by Professor Jose Maria Edito K. Tirol (Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines). Prof. Tirol will shed light on why the rescue of 1,300 Central European Jewish refugees by the Filipino Commonwealth in the late 1930s, a significant event in the larger narratives of the Global Holocaust, was forgotten for so many decades and discuss the reasons that brought about renewed interest in the rescue since the early 2000s, not just in the Philippines, but also in the international scholarly community and wider global publics. Distinguished Manila-based Scholar on the Changing Memories of the Philippine Rescue of European Jews During the Holocaust is scheduled at University Memorial Center (UMC) in Boulder on Monday, November 16, 2026 at 5:30 pm.
